K/1 Instructional Coach
About The Position
The Morgan Oliver School is seeking an experienced early elementary educator to provide instructional coaching and classroom support in a Kindergarten/1st Grade classroom. This role will work collaboratively with the lead teacher to strengthen literacy and math instruction, respond to student needs, and support the development of effective classroom routines. The position combines teacher coaching, instructional planning, modeled lessons, observation, and direct student support. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of foundational literacy, early mathematics, student assessment, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
Requirements
- Availability 4 mornings per week between 8:30 and 11:30 AM.
- Georgia teaching certification in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Experience teaching or supporting students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade.
- Strong knowledge of foundational literacy and early elementary mathematics.
- Training in Orton-Gillingham, structured literacy, the Science of Reading, or a comparable approach.
- Experience using assessment and observation data to guide instruction.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
Nice To Haves
- Demonstrated expertise in early mathematics instruction.
- Experience with instructional coaching, mentoring, or professional facilitation.
- Experience providing push-in, intervention, or MTSS-aligned support.
- Knowledge of handwriting and early written-language development.
- Experience in Title I, ESOL, special education, gifted, or mixed-readiness classrooms.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the K/1 lead teacher to plan literacy and math instruction aligned with classroom goals and student needs.
- Provide practical coaching, instructional feedback, and resources that the classroom teacher can use independently.
- Model structured literacy, early math, small-group, and classroom-management practices.
- Observe instruction and help identify manageable next steps for strengthening teaching and learning.
- Provide push-in support during whole-group, small-group, and independent learning.
- Help assess foundational skills in phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, handwriting, number sense, and early problem-solving.
- Use student work, assessment results, and classroom observations to recommend instructional groupings and targeted supports.
- Assist students who need additional scaffolding while supporting their participation in the classroom community.
- Help establish consistent routines for transitions, centers, independent work, and small-group instruction.
- Track student progress and provide concise updates to the classroom teacher and school leadership.
- Use strengths-based, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate practices.
