The detention officer will direct the activities of same-sex detained youth in all areas of programming. The detention officer will also perform admission and screening duties as needed. This role requires ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents, monitoring group dynamics, mediating disagreements, and supervising residents at all times. The officer will ensure residents participate in approved programs according to the daily schedule and provide individual, group, and crisis intervention. Responsibilities include assisting in the development and direction of approved programs, administering and recording medications, maintaining special watches on at-risk youth, and conducting searches. The role also involves restraining residents when necessary, monitoring residents in their rooms, following specific protocols for suicide precautions, and performing general tasks such as laundry, cleaning, and escorting residents. Transportation of residents, providing orientation, preparing written reports for court, and monitoring visitations are also key duties. The officer will inspect mail for contraband, maintain daily documentation, ensure residents' medical needs are met, collect urine samples, respond to crisis situations, and keep supervisors informed of program progress. Additionally, maintaining inventory, assisting with admissions, conducting room searches, ensuring facility and room security, and submitting work orders for repairs are required. The position also includes performing other assigned duties.
