About The Position

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is seeking a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor 2 (JRC2) for the Touchstone Community Facility in Olympia. This full-time position supports treatment and reentry planning for youth by monitoring their compliance with supervision plans and interacting with families, schools, employers, and treatment providers. The role involves comprehensive case management, counseling, transition and reentry planning, and community accountability. The JRC2 will manage an active caseload, work with youth and families in facility and community settings, facilitate treatment groups, develop community resources, and help youth generalize skills to real-world environments. The ideal candidate leads with warmth, builds trust with young people, and is committed to rehabilitation and successful reentry.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree, AND one year of professional experience working with at-risk or justice system-involved youth as a case manager, counselor, probation officer, parole officer, or experience working in a social service capacity planning directing, supervising, or facilitating interventions with at-risk juvenile justice system youth or related field.
  • OR One year as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor Assistant (JRCA) or Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor 1 (JRC1).
  • OR An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, totaling five years.
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
  • A Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or an allied field will substitute for the one year of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and juvenile rehabilitation practices and principles.
  • Experience providing cognitive/behavioral therapeutic interventions.
  • Demonstrated competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences related to juvenile delinquency.
  • Ability to use verbal de-escalation and physical control techniques approved for intervention with verbally and or physically aggressive youth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and cognitive/behavioral treatment to youth committed to Rehabilitation Administration care by the juvenile courts who have a complex range of disorders and service needs.
  • Interview and administer/interpret screening tools and assessments, assess behavior, prioritize treatment targets, develop treatment plans, and implement Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other therapeutic treatment interventions.
  • Facilitate various groups and activities and prepare youth and their families for the transition back to the community.
  • Perform routine security duties.
  • Supervise and/or serve meals to resident groups.
  • Monitor movement of residents within the facility and in the community.
  • Supervise and assign chores within a living unit to meet health and hygiene standards.
