About The Position

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of duties associated with juvenile casework services to monitor youth placed under court-ordered conditions as an alternative to community removal. Probation services involve completing pre-dispositional investigations, presenting recommendations to the court, confirming compliance with court orders, counseling and crisis intervention, referrals to community agencies, A&D screening, and report writing. This position requires a Federal NCIC background check and fingerprinting prior to accepting the position and every five (5) years thereafter as a condition of continued employment.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, behavioral health, sociology, justice studies, or a related field.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• OR An Associate’s Degree in psychology, social work, behavioral health, sociology, justice studies, or a related field and two (2) years of direct work experience in a juvenile court environment, case management, social work, behavioral health, or a related field involving at-risk or troubled youth or juveniles involved in the court system.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• OR The equivalent of a high school diploma and four (4) years of direct work experience in a juvenile court environment, case management, social work, behavioral health, or a related field involving at-risk or troubled youth or juveniles involved in the court system.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• This position requires a Federal NCIC background check and fingerprinting prior to accepting the position and every five (5) years thereafter as a condition of continued employment in the position.
• Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level.

Nice To Haves

• A Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or a related field and one (1) year of direct work experience in case management, social work, law enforcement, or a related field involving at-risk or troubled youth or juveniles involved in the court system is the preferred qualification for this position.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and oversees a caseload of youth referred to and/or deferred from the Juvenile Court.
• Compiles information, conducts interviews, and develops comprehensive reports identifying elements of the charge, family and personal history, education, work experience, impact on victims and other information.
• Identifies and recommends viable sentencing alternatives.
• Meets with youth and/or other affected parties.
• Appears and testifies in court.
• Assists in supervising public service hours which may require occasional Saturday work.
• Maintains, updates, and manages files, records, and other paperwork associated with individual files and the entire caseload.
• Develops, updates, and maintains statistical and related records and reports.
• Visits with referral on a scheduled and unscheduled basis.
• Assesses compliance with court or administratively-ordered alternatives to incarceration.
• Identifies and proposes modifications to set parameters as appropriate.
• Prepares and submits court documents, forms, and other items necessary for court records and information.
• Maintains certification in ACES; presents test battery to all delinquent clients and evaluates results for appropriate referral.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
