About The Position

Fulton County Juvenile Court is seeking a Juvenile Probation Officer who works with young offenders under the age of 18, providing supervision and support while they are on probation or parole. This role involves monitoring an assigned caseload of juveniles involved with the Juvenile Court System, ensuring compliance with court orders, and facilitating rehabilitation efforts.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science (psychology, sociology), criminal justice, or related field.
Two or more years of experience working in a juvenile court system or related field.
One (1) year of experience as a Juvenile Probation Officer.
Valid State of Georgia driver's license or proof of mobility equivalent may be requested.
Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.
Knowledge of criminal and juvenile laws and codes.
Knowledge of theories and principles of counseling related to the juvenile justice system.
Knowledge of court practices and procedures.
Knowledge of legal terminology, including terminology related to the juvenile justice system.
Knowledge of theories and principles of childhood and adolescent development/behavior.
Knowledge of theories and principles of sociology, psychology, and/or criminal justice.
Knowledge of techniques used to conduct interviews with juveniles.
Knowledge of principles and practices of legal case management related to juvenile justice.
Knowledge of community resources/programs associated with children/adolescents.
Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology.
Skill in organizing and prioritizing work.
Skill in using investigative and mediation techniques.
Skill in performing effective legal case management.
Skill in using spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation, financial/accounting and other software.
Skill in conducting effective interviews with juveniles.
Skill in intervening effectively in crisis situations.
Skill in building sustainable working relationships with other County personnel, officials, and the public.
Skill in communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisor, and the public.
Skill in generating enthusiasm and support for program objectives.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of lead or supervisory experience is preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Responsibilities

Supervision and monitoring of Youth under their care, including home visits and school checks.
Developing individual case plans with the youth and their families.
Connecting youth with rehabilitation support, community resources, and services.
Collaborating with various stakeholders.
Assessing the risk and needs of each youth and developing strategies to address those needs.
Preparing reports and documentation on the youth’s progress for the courts.
Providing individual, family, or group counseling as needed.
Scheduling, preparing, and presenting juvenile cases for court.
Conducting interviews with youth offenders and parents/guardians.
Monitoring participation of juveniles in resource programs and compliance at home, school, work, and in the community.
Conducting legal, social, and custody investigations of juveniles.
Recommending individualized action plans for dispositional phases of court hearings.
Identifying available community resources for youth offenders.
Preparing monthly reports on the status of juvenile cases.
Ensuring court cases and diversionary cases are managed.
Monitoring and managing the court juvenile case management system for data collection, coding, storage, and analysis.
Preparing written materials, charts, and graphs on specialized techniques and research results.
Making recommendations on incentives and sanctions.
Suggesting youth program improvements based on service outcomes and completion rates.
Acting as a liaison for entities such as Juvenile Court, Family Dependency Court, Fulton County Superior Drug Court, substance treatment providers, and social service agencies.
