About The Position

Reporting directly to a Juvenile Probation Supervisor or Field Counseling Supervisor, this role is responsible for providing case management and supervision of youth on an assigned caseload using trauma-informed practices. This is Level II of II in Juvenile Probation. The position involves understanding and promoting the vision of Williamson County Juvenile Services, with a daily focus on the department's service philosophy when interacting with youth. Emphasis is placed on Developmental Assets, Developmental Relationships, SPARK identification, Motivational Interviewing, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). The officer will perform supervisory duties in the absence of the assigned supervisor, train and mentor new Probation Officers, and engage with youth to develop relationships and focus efforts toward diversion from commitment to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). The role requires modeling positive behavior and leadership, redirecting youth behavior using appropriate trauma-focused interventions, and performing investigations and evaluations of offenders to submit social histories and/or recommendations to the court. The officer will interview and counsel offenders and families, appear in juvenile court and testify in hearings, and supervise youth on Conditions of Release, including monitoring compliance with Electronic Monitoring for youth on Deferred Prosecution and Court Ordered Probation. Maintaining compliance with contact and case plan standards, coordinating and transporting juveniles for appointments and placements, and facilitating special programs are also key responsibilities. The role involves developing relationships and communicating regularly with law enforcement, schools, courts, community organizations, and other social service agencies, and complying with departmental/countywide policies and TJJD standards. The officer will supervise youth on probation, including deferred, formal, and out-of-county placements, as well as youth in the First Offender Program and SEARCH Program. Collaboration with relevant staff and counselors for case management supervision of juveniles on the highest levels of supervision is required. The position may involve attending expulsion hearings and conducting/facilitating the intake process for youth placed into the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) and the CORE therapeutic residential program. Work also includes assisting with compiling, monitoring, and recording statistical data for reports to TJJD and attending required meetings and trainings. The Court Assignment aspect involves providing Social History reports and recommendations to the court and supervising detained youth on conditions of release pending court appearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
  • Two (2) years of full-time work experience in a juvenile supervision related field approved by TJJD.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a non-disqualifying criminal history per Texas Administrative Code Sections 344.200 and 344.400.
  • Maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • TJJD Juvenile Probation Officer certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • First aid certification.
  • Handle with Care certification.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) trained.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish speaker.
  • Knowledge of and skill with basic computer programs to complete forms and required documentation for caseload management.
  • At least one year of case management experience with at-risk youth.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains compliance with daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly contact and case plan standards.
  • Coordinates and transports juveniles for various appointments outside the facility, and for placement in out-of-county and TJJD facilities.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and facilitates special programs, such as Family Nights (to include evenings and weekends).
  • Develops relationships and communicates regularly with personnel in law enforcement, schools, courts, community organizations, and other social service agencies.
  • Readily complies with departmental / countywide policies and Texas Juvenile Justice Department standards.
  • Supervises youth on probation to include deferred, formal and out of county placements.
  • Supervises First Offender Program and SEARCH Program youth.
  • Collaborates with all relevant staff and counselors to provide case management supervision to residential caseload of juveniles on highest levels of supervision.
  • Attends expulsion hearings in each school district throughout the county, as needed.
  • Conducts and facilitates the intake process for youth placed into the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) and the CORE therapeutic residential program.
  • Works closely with JJAEP school personnel in recording attendance and progress.
  • Assists with compiling, monitoring, and recording statistical data for reports to TJJD.
  • Attends all meeting and trainings as required.
  • Performs special duties as assigned.
  • Provides Social History reports and recommendations to applicable court.
  • Supervises detained youth on conditions of release while pending court appearance.
