About The Position

This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Division of Juvenile Justice Director’s Office is recruiting for a Juvenile Probation Officer 5. Through a Restorative Justice approach, the division works to hold juvenile offenders accountable for their behaviors, promote the safety and restoration of victims and communities, and assist offenders and their families in developing the skills to prevent crime. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Understands the organization's financial processes. Prepares, justifies, and administers the program budget. Oversees procurement and contracting to achieve desired results. Monitors expenditures and uses cost-benefit thinking to set priorities.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods for evaluating program or organizational performance using financial and nonfinancial measures, including identification of evaluation factors (for example, workload, personnel requirements), metrics, and outcomes.
  • Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations.
  • Encourages creative tension and differences of opinions. Anticipates and takes steps to prevent counter-productive confrontations. Manages and resolves conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner.
  • Builds and manages workforce based on organizational goals, budget considerations, and staffing needs.   • Training in counseling, education, corrections, criminal justice, the behavioral sciences, public administration, or a closely related field and/or progressively responsible professional experience developing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, or managing a juvenile detention unit, treatment unit, or professional juvenile probation officers; an institutional or transport unit for an adult correctional facility; or probation work involving individuals incarcerated in a correctional institution or who are on parole or probation while in the community.
  • Successful candidates are subject to a background investigation, criminal record check, fingerprinting, and must complete a medical examination.
  • A valid Alaska driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
  • Must submit: The names and telephone number of three (3) professional references.
  • Must submit: Two (2) employment performance evaluations, if available.
  • Must submit: A copy of academic transcripts, to verify post-secondary education used to meet minimum qualifications.
  • Background investigation including fingerprinting will be conducted.
  • Must certify that they have a legal right to accept employment in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior leadership and oversight for community-based juvenile probation services across Alaska.
  • Drive statewide policy and program development.
  • Lead implementation of system improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, evaluate data, and conduct research to promote effective services.
  • Manage subordinate probation supervisors, handle personnel matters, and navigate labor relations and progressive discipline.
  • Champion offender accountability and family development grounded in restorative justice.
  • Collaborate closely with partner agencies, communities, Tribal governments, and division leadership.
  • Serve as a member of the division leadership team to support the safe and effective administration of juvenile probation in Alaska.
