About The Position

As a Juvenile Detention Officer in Columbia, SC, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Government, and more. As an Access Control Officer at a government juvenile services location, you will manage entry points, screen visitors and property, monitor activity, and maintain a professional presence that helps deter incidents. This driving post requires a valid driver’s license. You will provide exceptional customer service and clear communication while supporting a caring, reliable team that acts with integrity and delivers through teamwork.

Requirements

A valid driver’s license is required in the state where the job is located.
Must meet DPSS/DHS requirements, including a tuberculosis test and MMR vaccinations.
At least six months of security-related experience is required.
Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.

Nice To Haves

Comfortable using a computer or tablet is preferred.
X-ray screening experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service to staff, visitors, contractors, and youth-related program personnel while carrying out site-specific access-control procedures and security-related policies.
Monitor entry and exit points, verify identification and authorization, maintain visitor logs, and direct individuals according to established facility procedures.
Screen personnel, visitors, and permitted property in accordance with post orders and applicable government facility requirements.
Respond to incidents, access concerns, and critical situations in a calm, professional, problem-solving manner; notify appropriate site contacts and emergency responders as needed.
Conduct regular and random patrols of assigned access points, surrounding areas, and perimeter locations, reporting unusual activity, damaged equipment, or policy concerns.
