About The Position

This responsible entry-level position provides for the safety and security of juvenile residents and the facility, and for the physical care, safety, humane treatment, and well-being of juvenile offenders held in residential custody of the Juvenile Court. The employee ensures residents’ daily activity schedules are carried out as directed by supervisory staff; observes resident behavior; and initiates non-clinical counseling and rap sessions. The officer supervises residents throughout the shift and may be in charge of one or more offenders, preserving order and addressing serious disciplinary problems as needed. The role requires physical agility and strength and a controlled but firm manner when dealing with juveniles. All positions are located in West Jefferson, and applicants unwilling to work there will not be referred. Tours of duty are shift-based, may include day and/or night shifts, weekends, and holidays, and are subject to rotation. The position requires driving a Parish vehicle; possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record will be given preference. This is an essential emergency-duty position, and the employee may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.
