About The Position

This position provides a range of support to system-involved participants in and out of custody. It serves as a navigator of transitional support from incarceration to reentry into the community by way of cognitive behavioral reconstruction, education, and employment resources, while acting as a mentor in the participants' reentry process. It also acts as a mediator between the formerly incarcerated and community service agencies. Candidates should adapt to each participant’s needs, including the ability to guide and encourage participants on a wide variety of subjects. In addition, they will be cross-trained with our Justice and Workforce Navigator to ensure smooth integration with community resources. The individual hired will be required to become a Certified Recovery Support Specialist within six (6) months of hire. This position will be required to work at the Pima County Adult Detention Center (PCADC), and the incumbent will require security clearance/access to the jail.

Requirements

  • High-school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of experience providing mentoring, especially to justice-involved populations
  • One (1) year of experience navigating community-based agencies and programs
  • One (1) year of experience working collaboratively with a variety of agencies and individuals.
  • Valid driver license is required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
  • 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), issued by the American Red Cross or a comparable agency at the time of appointment and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (i.e., CCHP) or the ability to attain certification within 1 year of hire.

  • Experience providing forensic peer support and community resource navigation.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a forensic peer support team that will work in the Pima County Adult Detention Center (PCADC) with the population that cycles through the jail and crisis centers.
  • Manages, facilitates, and coordinates substance abuse education, therapeutic services, support services, training, and community resource education for detainees in the arrest to release process.
  • Develops curriculum and training materials for forensic peer support team members.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and compliance plans for the forensic peer support team.
  • Facilitates individual and group psychoeducation related to the Freedom Management curriculum.
  • Assists Program Manager to identify issues, solutions, reporting needs and corrective actions.
  • Develops and maintains departmental databases using automated systems to monitor and track forensic peer support activities program activities, reporting needs and compliance plans.
  • Develops and coordinates program activities and maintains effective working relationships with other County departments, public and private agencies, organizations, and groups.
  • Provides updates regarding forensic peer support team activities to other departments, governmental agencies, stakeholders, contractors, consultants, vendors, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Maintains record of case management notes (to be updated daily) and discusses the progress/challenges of each participant during weekly case conferencing.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance.
  • Works with jail staff to promptly address client concerns.
  • Participates in monthly jail discharge planning, data evaluation meetings, develop community re-entry plans, while addressing risk factors associated with recidivism.
  • Any other duties may be assigned as they relate to the expansion of the program and its reentry program development.
