About The Position

The Junior Varsity Head Baseball Coach is responsible for organizing and supervising a total sports program, instructing athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training, and promoting character development. The coach must serve as a role model, possess substantial knowledge of the sport, and stay updated on new theories and procedures. This role also involves advising and supporting assistant coaches, adhering to athletic policies and regulations, and assisting the athletic director with scheduling and event preparation. The position requires a strong understanding of sportsmanship and mental health, as well as the ability to handle community/parent pressure and potential risks associated with coaching.

Requirements

  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Previous successful coaching experience.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
  • Ability to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
  • Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies and responsibility for their implementation.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations.
  • Understanding of the proper administrative line of command.
  • Awareness of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
  • Ability to interact with students, staff, and the community (demonstrated through interview, past experience, and references).

Responsibilities

  • Organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success.
  • Instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment.
  • Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
  • Advise, coordinate, and support a staff of assistant coaches.
  • Implement all athletic policies and ensure staff adherence.
  • Consistently implement and interpret system, state, and league regulations.
  • Refer all requests or grievances through the proper administrative channels.
  • Attend public, staff, and departmental meetings as required.
  • Assist the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation, and managing requirements for tournament and special sport events.
  • Assist in the preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times.
  • Coordinate the program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Serve as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration of character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
