About The Position

Durham Academy is accepting applications for a part-time Junior Varsity Assistant boys basketball coach. The season runs from late October through early February. Candidates should expect a regular weekday commitment of 90 minute practices with two-three games per week.

Requirements

• Experience playing or coaching basketball at the interscholastic or collegiate level.
• A commitment to providing a safe, healthy, joyful environment for practice and play
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• An ability and eagerness to maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with all members of the school community (student-athletes, families, alumni, teachers, administrators and fellow coaches)
• The ability to lead student-athletes with competitive energy and formative care
• Culturally competent and believe in the central importance of diversity and equity in the life of a school community.
• Can work independently with minimal supervision and routinely prioritize multiple tasks.
• Have the ability to work in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness and attention to detail.
• Are personable, collaborative and able to develop rapport quickly with a variety of individuals.
• Use technology thoughtfully and creatively.
• Innovate and experiment to find novel and efficient ways to complete tasks and solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Assist with tryouts and team selection in consultation with the JV Head Coach and the Varsity coaching staff
• Help plan and execute effective practices
• Assist Head Coach with game strategy
• Drive a minibus to all road games
• Collaborate with all coaches in the boys basketball program and DA Athletics trainers, staff, administration and faculty
