About The Position

MDA is seeking a Junior Systems Member of Technical Staff (MTS), Spacecraft Mechanical to support system-level engineering activities across earth observation and remote sensing satellite programs. Working as part of a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to the specification, analysis, integration, and verification of spacecraft systems, and launch integration. You will work under the guidance of intermediate and senior engineers, gaining experience in system-level engineering while contributing to the successful delivery of end-to-end satellite missions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics or a related discipline
  • Familiarity with spacecraft mechanical systems such as structures, mechanisms, propulsion, and thermal management
  • Familiarity with launch and in-orbit environments and their impact on spacecraft design
  • Exposure to spacecraft assembly, integration, and test (AIT) activities
  • Basic understanding of environmental testing such as vibration, acoustic, shock, and thermal testing
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering tools such as CAD (e.g., NX)
  • Exposure to analysis tools such as finite element analysis (e.g., Nastran) or thermal analysis tools is an asset
  • Experience using MS Excel for engineering analysis
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment under guidance from experienced engineers

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of mechanical, structural, and thermal requirements from mission level down to subsystem level
  • Assisting in defining spacecraft environmental design requirements including launch and in-orbit conditions (vibration, acoustic, shock, thermal)
  • Supporting the development of mission loads cycles and structural verification activities
  • Assisting with spacecraft mass model generation and maintaining system and subsystem budgets
  • Supporting development and maintenance of interface control documents (ICDs)
  • Assisting with preparation of design reviews and generation of technical documentation
  • Contributing to verification planning including test matrices and requirement verification approaches
  • Supporting development of test plans and participating in test activities
  • Reviewing subcontractor documentation for compliance to requirements with guidance from senior engineers
  • Participating in spacecraft validation, commissioning, and early operations activities
  • Supporting engineering documentation, planning, and cost estimation activities
