About The Position

Under the direction of the Assistant Head Swim Coach and Aquatics Director, this role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the swim team and all its functions, including practices, meets, pep rallies, and meet sheet preparation. The primary focus will be assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Development program. This includes supervising young swimmers, conducting regular practices, organizing the team for swim meets, and ensuring swimmers are prepared to swim. The coach must attend all practices, meets, pep rallies, and other swim team functions, informing their supervisor of any conflicts. They will also attend Meet the Coaches night, organize swimmers at meets, and ensure communication between coaches, swimmers, and parents. Upholding the team's philosophy and motivating young swimmers are key aspects of this role. The coach will participate in opening swim team meetings, developing skit themes, producing weekly skits, decorating houses for championships, and contributing daily ideas and spirit. Enthusiasm and fun are expected when working with the youngest group on the team. Responsibilities also include keeping records on each swimmer, updating record boards, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of facilities, and ensuring the pool is set up and broken down for practices and meets. The coach must abide by the current Bylaws of the CCSDA, Bylaws and Rules & Customs of WGCC. Additionally, the role involves teaching private lessons to swim team members, especially developmental swimmers, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Or any similar combination of education and experience
  • Excellent supervision skills for swimmers of all ages (especially children)
  • Knowledge of swim meet operations
  • Basic knowledge of strokes and swimming techniques
  • Experience as a swimmer and swim instructor (especially children)
  • Experience with learning to swim programs or water safety instruction
  • Excellent mathematics skills
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to a wide variety of constituents, including both swimmers and parents (children and adults)
  • Demonstrated organization and coordination skills and ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards and coordinate quality assurance programs in areas of responsibility
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship-building skills
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service

Responsibilities

  • Run the day-to-day operations of the swim team and all swim team functions, including practices, meets, pep rallies, meet sheet preparation and skits (primarily will be assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Development program)
  • Supervise young swimmers on a daily basis
  • Conduct regular practices
  • Organize team for swim meets and get them prepared to swim
  • Attend all practices, meets, pep rallies and any other swim team function, informing supervisor of any conflicts
  • Attend Meet the Coaches night
  • Organize swimmers at swim meets and get them prepared to swim (should get the swimmers from your lane prepared for all races)
  • Ensure communication between coaches, swimmers and parents
  • Uphold the philosophy of the swim team
  • Lead and motivate young swimmers to be the best they can be
  • Participate in opening swim team meeting
  • Participate in developing skit themes for each meet and with the production of weekly skits at meets and pep rallies
  • Participate in decorating houses for champs
  • Participate with daily ideas and spirit
  • Stay enthusiastic with young swimmers at all times and have fun working with the youngest group on our team
  • Keep records on each swimmer and update record boards appropriately
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facilities, especially the Coach’s office and other storage areas; ensure set-up and break-down of the pool for practices and meets
  • Abide by the current Bylaws of the CCSDA, Bylaws and Rules & Customs of WGCC
  • Teach private lessons to any and all members of the swim team on a daily basis, especially developmental swimmers
  • Other duties as assigned
