Junior Software Engineer, Edge Platform
About The Position
Laminar is building human-centric self-driving factories that produce goods for consumption, use, and wear. Requirements
- High initiative and strong follow-through.
- Ability to learn quickly and work successfully in a fast-paced team environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Good hands-on Linux experience, including the command line, permissions, processes, services, package management, and logs.
- Experience programming in a language such as Python, Rust, C++, or Go, and familiarity with shell scripting.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, DNS, ports, and TCP/IP.
- Familiarity with Git and a methodical approach to testing and debugging.
- Academic, personal, internship, or professional projects demonstrating the ability to build and troubleshoot working systems.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Docker, virtual machines, systemd, or a personal Linux server.
- Interest in running ML models locally.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Linux services, scripts, and tools supporting the edge platform.
- Automate the setup and configuration of edge computers and factory-deployed servers.
- Support packaging, testing, and deployment of applications using containers and virtual machines.
- Implement and test integrations for industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, CC-Link, EtherNet/IP).
- Contribute to software updates, logging, monitoring, and recovery capabilities for deployed systems.
- Investigate service failures, networking issues, and resource usage.
- Develop tests that improve reliability across deployment environments.
- Support the integration and testing of ML inference workloads on edge hardware.
- Collaborate with the senior engineer and broader engineering team to deliver features and resolve platform issues.
- Maintain clear setup instructions, technical documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
