About The Position

Intelerad is seeking a Junior Software Developer to join the IntelePACS Backend team and help deliver backend capabilities for its enterprise medical imaging platform. The team is working toward an AI-first development approach in which agentic coding tools are part of everyday work. Under the guidance of senior developers, the successful candidate will develop their technical skills, build knowledge of IntelePACS and medical imaging workflows, and learn to use AI-assisted development responsibly in a regulated healthcare environment. The role involves implementing scoped backend features and fixes, contributing to testing and documentation, participating in code reviews, investigating defects and security findings, and following the team's software development lifecycle, review, testing, traceability, and change-control practices. The developer will collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners, communicate task progress, and actively seek opportunities to learn.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience developing commercial software.
  • Solid foundation in Java and object-oriented programming, with an interest in multi-threaded and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux/UNIX, relational databases and SQL (ideally PostgreSQL), and REST APIs.
  • Exposure to automated unit testing and Git version control.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants or agentic tools in academic, personal, or professional projects.
  • Awareness that AI-generated code can be plausible but wrong, and a habit of reviewing, testing, and understanding code before submitting it.
  • Strong desire to learn, good communication skills, and ability to work effectively in an Agile/Scrum team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a large, established production codebase.
  • A portfolio of projects, such as on GitHub, demonstrating development and AI-assisted engineering work.
  • Interest in healthcare technology, including DICOM, HL7, FHIR, or medical imaging.
  • Exposure to regulated or quality-managed development environments.
  • Familiarity with AWS or containers such as Docker.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins.
  • Experience with C++, Perl, or shell scripting.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and document well-scoped backend features and fixes under senior developer guidance, following Intelerad's regulated SDLC.
  • Build working knowledge of IntelePACS components and medical imaging workflows, progressively taking ownership of assigned areas.
  • Participate in code reviews, incorporate feedback, and contribute to automated test coverage and the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Investigate and resolve defects and security findings in assigned components, escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Use agentic coding tools in daily development, learning when to delegate work to an agent, when to code directly, and how to verify results.
  • Follow review, testing, traceability, and change-control practices for all contributions, including AI-assisted code, to meet compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional teams on functionality and technical design, and provide accurate task progress updates.
  • Seek learning opportunities, ask questions, and share knowledge with the team.

Benefits

  • A full range of medical, financial, retirement, and PTO benefits may be provided as part of the total compensation package.
  • Bonus and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of the total compensation package.
