About The Position

Vertus Group is seeking a Junior Cybersecurity Analyst to support the security, monitoring, compliance, and operational resilience of our portfolio companies. Reporting to the Director of IT & Security, this role will help monitor systems, investigate alerts, support vulnerability management, assist with security reviews, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of cybersecurity practices across Vertus business units. This is an entry-level role ideal for someone who has completed a cybersecurity, threat management, computer networking, or related technical program and is looking to build hands-on experience in a multi-business software environment. The successful candidate will be curious, detail-oriented, disciplined, and comfortable working across infrastructure, cloud systems, SaaS applications, endpoint security, and security compliance processes.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Cybersecurity, Threat Management, Computer Networking, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 0–2 years of experience in cybersecurity, IT support, networking, systems administration, help desk, security operations, or a related technical role.
  • Foundational understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including phishing, malware, vulnerability management, identity and access management, endpoint protection, incident response, and basic network security.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows environments, Active Directory / Entra ID, endpoint devices, cloud services, and common business applications.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPNs, routing, and wireless security.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues carefully and document findings clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in simple business language.
  • High attention to detail and strong follow-through, especially when tracking open risks, remediation items, or access review tasks.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues appropriately.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, integrity, confidentiality, and willingness to learn in a fast-moving multi-business environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with security tools such as endpoint detection and response, antivirus, vulnerability scanners, SIEM/logging tools, password managers, or email security platforms is an asset.
  • Exposure to cybersecurity frameworks or standards such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Controls, or OWASP is an asset.
  • Relevant certifications or working toward certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, Microsoft Security Fundamentals, ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity, or similar credentials would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor security alerts, endpoint activity, system logs, and threat signals to help identify suspicious or unauthorized activity across Vertus environments.
  • Assist with the triage, investigation, documentation, and escalation of cybersecurity incidents under the guidance of senior IT and security resources.
  • Support vulnerability management activities, including reviewing scan results, tracking remediation items, and following up with internal teams to ensure risks are addressed.
  • Help maintain and improve security documentation, including incident logs, asset inventories, access reviews, security checklists, and remediation trackers.
  • Assist with user access reviews across core systems, including Microsoft 365, cloud platforms, security tools, and business applications.
  • Support phishing awareness, security training, and internal communication efforts to improve employee awareness and reduce preventable security risks.
  • Assist with vendor security reviews, security questionnaires, compliance evidence collection, and audit preparation for initiatives such as SOC 2, penetration testing, and customer security requests.
  • Work with business unit leaders and technical teams to support implementation of cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Help investigate endpoint, email, identity, and network-related issues, including suspicious login activity, malware alerts, phishing reports, and configuration risks.
  • Support the configuration and administration of cybersecurity tools, including endpoint protection, email security, identity management, vulnerability scanning, and monitoring platforms.
  • Assist with cloud and infrastructure security reviews, including basic checks related to access controls, encryption, logging, backups, and secure configuration.
  • Prepare clear summaries of security issues, actions taken, open risks, and recommended next steps for the Director of IT & Security and business unit stakeholders.
  • Stay current on emerging threats, cybersecurity practices, and common attack techniques affecting software companies and SaaS environments.
  • Demonstrate strong judgment, confidentiality, and professionalism when handling sensitive company, employee, customer, and security-related information.
