About The Position

The Department of Service Nova Scotia is seeking a Junior Policy Analyst (Intern) to assist in advancing its regulatory modernization agenda within the Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel & Tobacco Division. This two-year internship offers hands-on experience in government policy development and implementation, contributing to projects that shape how Nova Scotians experience alcohol, gaming, tobacco, and vaping products. The role provides challenging and satisfying growth opportunities within a high-performing team, with support and training provided throughout the development period.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate from a college diploma or a university bachelor’s degree in a related field within the last 3 years.
  • Ability to conduct policy research, analyze data, and compare options.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
  • Ability to write clearly for different audiences and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) as well as MS Teams and Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and support project coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis to support AGFT initiatives.
  • Participate in policy and regulatory projects.
  • Prepare reports, jurisdictional scans, and briefing notes to communicate information.
  • Assist in preparing submissions to Executive Council.
  • Assist with drafting correspondence to the public and stakeholders.
