About The Position

The Junior Planner, Development will provide technical interpretation, review, advice, and recommendations for all planning applications. This role involves working with various application types including consent, minor variances, zoning amendments, site plan control, related agreements, and the Community Planning Permit System (CPPS) framework. The position requires excellent customer service, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The role also includes performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma in Urban Design, Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
  • Two (2) years relevant work experience, in a planning, building and/or engineering related setting.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, report writing, communication, presentation, conflict resolution skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Zoning By-Laws, Official Plans, municipal planning processes, planning principles and applicable legislation (including Planning Act, Provincial Planning Statement and Guidelines).
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy skills and the ability to exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Proficient in Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
  • Advanced time management and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated safe work practices.
  • Valid G driver’s license and/or the ability to travel for site visits and between County offices and facilities as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a Planning Division in a municipal setting.
  • Knowledge interpreting, administering development within the Community Planning Permit System (CPPS) framework.
  • Membership, or candidate membership, in Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI) and/or Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT).
  • Experience utilizing City View software or similar electronic planning/ building permit processing software.
