Junior Physicist

FIELDLINE INDUSTRIES•Boulder, CO
•$80,000 - $110,000•Onsite

About The Position

FieldLine Industries is a Colorado-based quantum sensing company developing and manufacturing high-sensitivity quantum magnetometers and advanced multi-sensor systems. Our technology is being applied in a wide variety of application areas including navigation in GNSS-denied environments, unexploded ordnance detection, maritime sensing, and space systems. Our technology sits at the intersection of quantum physics, precision engineering, and real-world deployment—transforming applications in navigation, space and geographical mapping, geophysics, defense applications, and fundamental research. We’re a small, highly technical team that values solving problems together, with curiosity, rigor, reliability and humor. We are taking on several exciting projects this year, and are seeking a Junior Physicist to join the team. The Role: Work with the team in the development, characterization, and operation of quantum magnetometers, from laboratory experiments through integration and deployment in real-world Platforms.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with optics and lasers.
  • Experience with Python for data analysis and automation.
  • Working knowledge of electronics and electrical measurements, including oscilloscopes, lock-in amplifiers, and basic noise concepts.
  • Willingness to perform field work, including travel and working in outdoor conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with optical, atomic, or quantum sensors.
  • Experience with low-noise measurements and instrumentation.
  • Basic mechanical design skills, including CAD and/or 3D printing for payload mounts.
  • Experience with embedded systems or instrument control, such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or DAQ hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Test and characterize quantum magnetometers, benchmarking their performance against component specifications and identifying sources of noise and performance limitations.
  • Support sensor development by designing and implementing tabletop experimental setups, collecting and analyzing data.
  • Work with the team to automate measurement procedures and control laboratory instrumentation.
  • Support sensor integration into platforms and their deployment in the field.
  • Document experimental procedures and results and present findings at internal and external meetings.
