About The Position

Superior Motion Control (SMC) is a precision machine shop and assembly operation based in Farmingdale, NY, supporting the U.S. Department of Defense and major prime contractors. This role is an internship leading to a full-time Mechanical Engineer position. Strong performers will convert to full-time at the end of the summer. Both the internship and the full-time role are based on-site. The intern will work alongside the lead engineer, tackling the volume of work, gaining exposure to DoD programs, and growing into design ownership.

Requirements

Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Familiarity with CAD software.
Ability to work on-site in Long Island, NY.

Nice To Haves

Experience with DoD contracts.
Knowledge of precision machining and assembly.

Responsibilities

Compile and refine vendor packages for DoD contracts, including drawings, models, specs, and certifications.
Update legacy drawing packages and CAD models to current standards.
Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and the shop floor to ensure package accuracy and completeness.
Back up the lead engineer in design, testing, machining, and mechanical assembly.
Support new program proposals and design work.
Build and test production and prototype components in the shop.
Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and engineering standards.
