About The Position

Satwave AI is an innovative Atlanta-based startup in the Satellite Communications industry. We design and build leading-edge flat panel array antennas and advanced antenna systems for commercial, defense, and government customers. Our multidisciplinary team of software, embedded, hardware, and RF engineers takes on hard technical problems and carries designs from concept through test, integration, and delivery. We work in a small team environment where each engineer has a direct effect on the product and on the success of the company. We seek a full-time Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team as we complete our development of leading-edge flat panel array antennas as well as future work on developing advanced antenna systems. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in mechanical design and the ability to work independently. This role will support the design and development of mechanical components and systems while communicating with the rest of the team. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, has an eye for detail, and has a strong understanding of the manufacturing process.

Requirements

  • 1 – 5 years experience in SolidWorks (required)
  • Strong knowledge in a 2D CAD tools (required)
  • Experience in the use of PDM and PLM software
  • Rapid prototyping through vendors or the use of in-house 3D printers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other common office software
  • Ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in thermal management (preferred)
  • Mechanical design integration with RF and/or Antenna Systems (preferred)
  • Experience in mechanical engineering for antennas or RF systems a major plus
  • Experience in thermal modelling a plus
  • Experience in positioners a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and validate new components, products, and processes
  • Use SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD to create parts and model complete systems
  • Use 2D CAD software, spreadsheets, or other tools to create other drawings and documents including block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
  • Work with a remote mechanical engineering team to create drawings and mechanical solutions
  • Work closely with larger engineering team to determine mechanical requirements that meet customer specifications and the needs of electrical and RF components
  • Attend electrical and RF meetings to be familiar with requirements and design iterations
  • Actively participate in engineering design discussions to create mechanical solutions or suggest modifications to electrical and RF components
  • Represent the customer, electrical, and RF requirements to the larger mechanical engineering team to design a compliant mechanical system
  • Work with vendors to understand manufacturing process and design parts for manufacturing
  • Support rapid prototyping needs to quickly test mechanical prototypes
  • Inspect received parts to verify compliance with drawings
  • Test fitment of parts and work with mechanical engineering team to resolve issues and iterate design
  • Work with local engineering team to test system, including environmental testing, schock and vibration testing, and thermal performance
  • Work with program manager to estimate duration of tasks for the creation of a schedule
  • Contribute to technical presentations and documentation as required
  • Work with local engineering team to validate system meets requirements
  • Use industry standard best practices for PDM and PLM, including document control, change request/order processes, and release processes
