About The Position

Morgan Stanley is a leading global financial services firm. The Commodities Department is a market leader in energy, metals, and agricultural product trading worldwide. The Global Oil Business market makes and takes positions in oil liquids contracts across the world. This is an Associate role on the Oil Trading desk, located in New York, within the Commodities department. The desk is focused on Eastern and Gulf Coast Refined Products/Natural Gas Liquids markets. A successful candidate would be able to develop a deep understanding of market structure, fundamentals, and physical flows within the US East of Rockies refined products and/or natural gas liquids markets. The candidate would work closely with the senior traders to assist with various tasks.

Requirements

Undergraduate Degree in finance, economics, computer science, statistics, engineering or other quantitative based discipline
2-5 years of professional experience, with preference for any Financial or economics related experience
Strong knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Excel and related applications
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
Strong research and communication skills
Strong interest in trading, financial markets, and the commodities space (particularly energy commodities)
Familiarity in VBA and/or SQL
Must be an excellent team player and multitasker

Nice To Haves

Experience in a traditional programming language such as Java, C/C++, Python, or R.

Responsibilities

Perform daily analysis of oil/NGL market fundamentals, mine relevant data, and develop analytical tools used in daily trading
Identify profitable trading opportunities
Develop pricing models to support structured transactions
Prepare daily risk and PnL reports and analytics for the trading desk and Commodities management
Engage with scheduling to ensure counterparty obligations are met
Support salespeople with client interactions including occasional travel
