About The Position

The Catholic Diocese of San Diego and St. Therese Academy seek a passionate, organized, and faith-filled educator committed to developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking students. This role includes responsibility for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned English Language Arts instruction for 7th and 8th grade students while fostering academic excellence, strong character, and spiritual growth in a supportive Catholic school community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid California teaching credential preferred
  • Teaching experience in elementary and/or middle school (ELA experience preferred)
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Commitment to Catholic education and the mission of forming students in faith and academic excellence
  • Active, practicing Catholic and Catechetical Certification (preferred)
  • Proficiency with instructional technology
  • Positive professional references and successful completion of Livescan background clearance

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement engaging, standards-aligned instruction (Common Core, California State Standards)
  • Deliver ELA curriculum (Reading/Literature, Writing, Vocabulary) and facilitate novel studies as applicable
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and use data to inform teaching practices
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive classroom environment grounded in respect and Restorative Practices
  • Assess student academic and social growth; maintain accurate records and provide timely grades and progress reports
  • Support student organization, study habits, and accountability for academic expectations
  • Integrate technology (e.g., Google Classroom) to enhance instruction and engagement
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
  • Collaborate with colleagues, participate in professional development, and contribute to a supportive school culture
  • Provide additional academic support as needed (e.g., after-school support sessions for junior high- 2 times per week)
  • Fulfill supervision duties and other responsibilities as assigned by administration
  • Maintain timely communication (email/voicemail) and strong partnerships with families
  • Uphold professionalism, confidentiality, and a respectful demeanor with students, staff, and parents
  • Maintain an organized classroom and actively support school-wide initiatives
