About The Position

The Junior Health Promotion Specialist is an entry level position responsible for supporting the Health Promotion Specialists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of CSL’s child and youth injury prevention programs and initiatives in Atlantic Canada. These initiatives or activities include support to broad based programming, communication, advocacy, education and awareness initiatives, and research and evaluation. They work with CSL and other IWK staff, community groups, health professionals, and other key interested parties to support projects to work towards CSL’s Strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline/health promotion required.
  • Knowledge and training in the field of health promotion, injury prevention, and/or public health or new graduate with applicable coursework required.
  • Must be registered with the relevant health discipline college/association, where applicable
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance coverage is required.
  • Understanding of community development, community engagement, program development and implementation, and evaluation.
  • Entry level project management and program development skills.
  • Strong oral, writing and presentation skills.
  • Entry level facilitation skills; knowledge and application of adult education approaches.
  • Strong understanding of principles and theory of community development, health promotion, determinants of health, healthy public policy, population health and social marketing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural competence and the unique needs of diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated willingness/ability to work collaboratively with staff colleagues and community key interested parties
  • Entry level understanding/experience in evaluation methods and processes; data analysis
  • Excellent report and proposal writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support provided to CSL staff and partners when appropriate.
  • Support the development and implementation of local, provincial, and Atlantic-wide program and services.
  • Support engagement initiatives to identify community needs and priorities
  • Support CSL staff to develop project goals and objectives and evaluation plans.
  • Apply a population health approach to addressing the social determinants of health, specifically in relation to injury prevention.
  • Assist in all aspects of program planning and implementation.
  • Develop and implement awareness strategies with assistance of Health Promotion Specialists and PR Coordinator.
  • Identify, develop, and support the implementation and evaluation of education and training opportunities related to child and youth injury prevention.
  • Support the development and dissemination of educational resources, curriculum, and other knowledge translation to support injury prevention initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic and operational planning to reach CSL’s Strategic Goals.
  • Participate in committees to establish working relationships.
  • Prepare detailed documentation, reports, briefing notes, and tailors’ communication of these writings to specific audiences.
  • Develop visual communication products such as PowerPoint presentations, social media posts, etc.
