About The Position

Project FIND's mission is to provide low- and moderate-income and homeless seniors with the services and support they need to enrich their lives and live independently. Project FIND operates three supportive housing residences that are home to about 600 people and four senior centers with over 3,000 members. The Junior Handyperson is responsible for building maintenance, repairs, and preventive care across Project FIND’s residential and administrative sites. This is a multi-site role based out of the Main Office, with regular assignments across Project FIND’s portfolio of buildings. Responsibilities include cross-site work order completion, office space optimization and reconfiguration, and general building and grounds upkeep in support of both staff operations and resident services.

Requirements

  • Basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical knowledge.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to safely use common power and hand tools.
  • Skilled in a wide range of areas but will also be able to recognize when a repair is outside of their skill set and make a recommendation to their supervisor.
  • HVAC knowledge and repair skills.
  • Experience installing and replacing plumbing systems.
  • Strong communication skills with property management and tenants.
  • Self-starter with good time management skills.
  • Ability to sit, walk and stand for numerous hours.
  • Ability to lift packages and other items up to 50 lbs.
  • Have an understanding, appreciation, and commitment to the philosophy and mission of Project FIND.
  • Establish and maintain polite, professional and effective working relationships with all contacts during the performance of duties.
  • Completion of relevant training program.
  • Good oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Completes cross-site work orders across Project FIND’s portfolio of buildings, traveling to assigned locations as directed and reporting to the direct supervisor upon arrival at each site.
  • Assists with office space optimization projects, including furniture reconfiguration, layout planning support, and setup for new or renovated workspaces.
  • Assist with electrical repairs in community areas, including lights.
  • Ensure mechanical equipment is in working order and fixed as needed.
  • Complete general building cleaning.
  • Install and replace floors, stairs and piping as needed.
  • Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, roofs and other parts of the building.
  • Maintain trash and recycling receptacles around the building.
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building.
  • Strips, waxes, and buffs floors.
  • Removes garbage from trash cans and compactor and places out for pickup based upon sanitation schedule.
  • Maintains garbage rooms, trash cans and dumpsters and ensure they are in a clean, sanitary condition.
  • Sweeps and cleans sidewalks and planters, hoses sidewalk with pressure washer.
  • During the winter removes snow and ice and spreads de-ice to prevent slips.
  • Cleans rooms by discarding old furniture, beds and other items.
  • Prepares rooms for painting, paints rooms and bathrooms.
  • Helps to make rooms move-in ready.
  • Maintains kitchen inventory by monitoring supply levels, restocking as needed, and communicating shortages to the direct supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for mail and package pickup; ensures all deliveries are received, logged, and distributed to the appropriate staff or departments in a timely manner.
  • When on assignment at any site, must report to their direct supervisor upon arrival and check in for all tasks, updates, and work order items before beginning work.
