About The Position

BWXT Medical Ltd. is seeking a Junior Glassblower to provide essential glassblowing services for the continued operation of the Development and Production Departments. This role also assists in the maintenance and emergency repairs of production equipment. The position is based on-site in Kanata, ON. BWXT Medical Ltd. is a leader in the development and manufacture of nuclear medicine for biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceutical companies, and academic partners, employing over 300 skilled individuals across Kanata and Vancouver.

Requirements

Secondary school graduation together with an appropriate training or apprenticeship in glassblowing plus a minimum of three years glassblowing experience.
Ability to fabricate complex apparatus from quartz or Pyrex glass for development, analytical or production purposes.
Ability to assist in designing prototype equipment.
Knowledge of the effect of high temperature and thermal shock tolerances on glass assemblies.
Knowledge and skill in the fabrication of glass to metal joins, glass to glass joins, and fabrication of glass equipment.
Knowledge of the characteristics, applications and limitations of a wide variety of glass as utilized in various chemical processes.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and abilities.
Demonstrated attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Fabricates glass equipment for use in Development, Quality Control, Isotope Production and other users and customers.
Operates and uses torches, glassblowing lathes, annealing ovens and cut-off machines.
Uses various gauges and instruments for dimensional checks.
Finalizes and prepares glassware for transfer to other departments.
Ensures glass equipment is maintained in an operable state.
Installs, tests and commissions new and replacement equipment in production facilities.
Assists with emergency repair service for production equipment as required.
Works successfully in a collaborative work environment through demonstration of interpersonal skills, teamwork, conflict resolution and effective communication.
Performs other related duties.
