Junior GIS Technician
About The Position
Squamish Nation is seeking a Junior GIS Technician to join the Ta na wa Yúus Stitúyntsam̓ Rights & Title Department within the Nexwníw̓mamin Ch'áwch'aw Territory & Culture Services Division. This role plays an important part in supporting Rights & Title initiatives by providing technical GIS expertise and geospatial data management services. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams in archaeology, referrals, climate action, and other program areas, you will help create maps, manage spatial data, and develop geospatial solutions that support informed decision-making and the protection of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw territory.
Requirements
- GIS Diploma, Degree, or equivalent education from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Technical training and experience in GIS principles, including map projections, coordinate systems, and spatial analysis.
- Experience using Esri software products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Experience creating, maintaining, and managing geodatabases.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools, particularly Python and SQL.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- High level of professionalism, emotional intelligence, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Resourceful problem-solving abilities and strong attention to detail.

- Knowledge and understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and people is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Organize, integrate, and publish spatial data using web-based GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Produce high-quality 2D maps, figures, charts, and presentation materials to support reporting, proposals, and field programs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to understand project requirements and develop effective geospatial solutions.
- Update and maintain GIS layers across multiple repositories and formats.
- Acquire and integrate spatial data from external sources, including GeoBC, DataBC, CanVec, and other datasets.
- Support the management and maintenance of centralized geodatabases.
- Prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Apply strong cartographic principles and organizational mapping standards to all deliverables.
- Support technical projects related to archaeology, referrals, climate action, and territory management.
- Perform additional duties as required to support departmental goals.
