About The Position

At Unified Door & Hardware Group (UDHG), the Junior Estimator supports the estimating team by preparing accurate, timely, and well‑organized material takeoffs and pricing packages for commercial door, frame, and hardware projects. This entry‑level role is ideal for someone detail‑oriented, eager to learn the DFH industry, and ready to grow into a full estimator position. The Junior Estimator works closely with senior estimators, project managers, and sales staff to ensure bids are complete, competitive, and aligned with customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to read construction drawings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic computer skills
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Entry Level - Two year's experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction, building materials, or DFH industry
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Comsense, Protech, or similar estimating tools
  • Understanding of commercial hardware functions and terminology
  • Curious and eager to learn the DFH trade
  • Comfortable working with technical details and complex product data
  • Team-oriented with a positive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Able to manage multiple bids and shifting priorities
  • Takes pride in accuracy and craftsmanship in their work

Responsibilities

  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify door, frame, and hardware requirements
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for hollow metal frames, wood doors, hollow metal doors, and hardware sets
  • Assist in interpreting hardware schedules, elevations, and life‑safety requirements
  • Enter takeoff data into estimating software or internal templates with accuracy and consistency
  • Support senior estimators in preparing quotes, pricing sheets, and submittal packages
  • Request vendor pricing for doors, frames, hardware, specialty products, and accessories
  • Organize bid documents, RFIs, and correspondence to ensure complete bid packages
  • Track bid deadlines and ensure deliverables are submitted on time
  • Learn manufacturer product lines (e.g., Allegion, ASSA ABLOY, Steelcraft, Curries, VT, Masonite)
  • Understand basic code requirements including fire ratings, ADA, egress, and life‑safety considerations
  • Develop familiarity with hardware functions, handing, and application
  • Work closely with senior estimators to review takeoffs and verify accuracy
  • Communicate with vendors, reps, and internal teams to clarify product details
  • Participate in handoff meetings with project management after award
  • Maintain organized digital files for drawings, quotes, and project documents
  • Update CRM/ERP systems with bid information and status changes
  • Assist with revisions, VE options, and re‑quotes as needed
