About The Position

Studebaker Electric is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Estimator to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in construction estimating. The Junior Estimator will assist with preparing cost estimates for electrical infrastructure projects including roadway lighting, traffic signals, underground utilities, bridge lighting, airfield lighting, EV charging systems, and other public works projects. The ideal candidate is organized, eager to learn, and capable of interpreting construction plans and specifications. Previous experience reading plans, performing quantity takeoffs, working in construction, or supporting estimating efforts is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience reading construction plans and specifications.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs.
  • Electrical construction experience.
  • Public works construction experience.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, HeavyBid, or similar construction software.

Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings.
  • Assist in preparing labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor estimates.
  • Organize bid documents and maintain estimating files.
  • Solicit and track vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist with bid preparation and proposal assembly.
  • Enter estimating data into company software systems.
  • Research materials, equipment, and installation methods.
  • Support senior estimators throughout the bidding process.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when required.
  • Help maintain historical cost databases and estimating records.
  • Communicate professionally with vendors, subcontractors, and internal personnel.
  • Learn company estimating procedures, cost code structures, and public works bidding requirements.
