About The Position

The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Junior Electrician. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, facilities, and related electronic controls. The position also includes reading utility meters, working events outside of normal hours, and potentially serving as "essential personnel" with unusual attendance responsibilities like storm duty.

Requirements

• High school diploma, or general education degree (GED), and four (4) years related electrical experience and/or training.
• Must have a Mississippi drivers license.
• Ability to quickly diagnosis and repair electrical systems in the event of an emergency
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software.
• Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Skill in using mathematics to solve problems.
• Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings and/or electrical systems.
• Ability to perform maintenance, to follow instructions, and to interpret drawings and diagrams.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship. The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B).

Nice To Haves

• Seven (7) years related experience as a certified journeyman electrician.
• Trade school electrical training certification course completion.
• High voltage experience desired.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, and repairs lighting equipment & electrical equipment (e.g. wires, conduits, switches, outlets, junction boxes).
• Ability to assist with Testing and troubleshoot transformers, motors, generators.
• Completes assigned work orders in a timely and efficient fashion while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor with all customers.
• Performs accurate reading of all utility meters on campus.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Works athletic and other events as assigned, which often occur after normal working hours and on weekends.
