About The Position

Avantor is looking for a Junior Design Engineer to join our Avantor Fluid Handling team, delivering results against some of the most complex business and technology initiatives. The Junior Engineer will support production engineering activities through drawings, BR templates, and deviation management. Gain hands-on experience in testing, inspection, and connection reporting while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and production requirements are met. This is a hybrid position based at our Devens, MA facility. Avantor’s Engineering team is part of our Avantor Fluid Handling organization. This global team supports the innovation and growth objectives of major drug production companies across the world by helping with the integration of single use technology into their lab processes and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioscience Engineering (or related field) and/or equivalent experience, education and training
  • 0-1 years of experience using AutoCAD or similar engineering software through internships, coursework, research projects, or professional experience.
  • Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel

Nice To Haves

  • SolidWorks experience is highly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of engineering, manufacturing, quality, or bioprocessing principles gained through coursework, internships, or project experience.
  • Willingness to learn technical concepts and apply them to production and customer requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation

Responsibilities

  • Support basic production activities through engineering drawings, BR templates, and deviation documentation.
  • Assist with testing and inspection activities, including the preparation and maintenance of connection reports.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes, including customer complaint review meetings and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records with strong attention to detail.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement and production goals.
  • Occasional travel to customer locations. Valid driver’s license required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Develop custom single-use system assemblies through an understanding of bioprocess applications.
  • Create approval drawings based on sketches, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Support customer projects and coordinate activities with commercial teams and third-party partners.
  • Select appropriate subcomponents and ensure connections meet application, temperature, and pressure requirements.
  • Participate in testing protocol development, validation activities, and customer validation package preparation.
  • Enter and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Methods of Manufacturing (MOMs) within the ERP system.
  • Support product feasibility assessments, cost evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and component libraries.
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints and support corrective action activities.
  • Understand and follow company operating procedures while fostering strong customer relationships.
