About The Position

CompQsoft is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Junior Design Engineer & CAD Drafter to support its Navy contract client. This hybrid, entry-level role combines hands-on CAD drafting with foundational engineering analysis, design modeling, and technical documentation. Working with senior engineers, architects, project managers, and contracting officers, the role converts engineering concepts, calculations, and sketches into precise, production-ready technical drawing packages. The work supports DoD, CNIC, and NIWC requirements across Navy installation infrastructure, information warfare systems, and fleet readiness operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related technical discipline; alternatively, an associate’s degree in CAD/Drafting Technology, Design Engineering Technology, or a related field plus 1–2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • 0–2 years of professional or internship experience in engineering design, drafting, or technical documentation.
  • Hands-on academic projects, capstone designs, or professional experience demonstrating proficiency in CAD modeling and technical drawing production.
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling/BIM platforms such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or MicroStation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and generate engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical or architectural layouts.
  • Basic understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing standards (GD&T) and material properties.
  • Familiarity with dynamic blocks, external references (Xrefs), and sheet set management.
  • Understanding of basic engineering fundamentals, building codes, and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards for technical drawings, including ISO 128, ISO 5457, and ISO 7200.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for Navy/DoD program eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to DoD, Navy, or defense contractor projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support senior engineers in translating functional requirements, system concepts, and technical specifications into initial design models and drawings.
  • Perform preliminary design calculations under engineering supervision, including basic sizing, fit and clearance checks, load or stress checks, and schematic routing.
  • Assist in evaluating design options, identifying spatial or structural conflicts, and proposing constructability solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews, peer code checks, and technical feedback iterations.
  • Create, modify, and maintain technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and assembly layouts using CAD/BIM tools.
  • Convert engineering sketches, site surveys, and marked-up drawings into compliant technical drawing packages.
  • Update drawing repositories to reflect as-built conditions, field modifications, and engineering change orders.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials, hardware schedules, dimensional specifications, and geometric tolerancing data for manufacturing and construction.
  • Ensure drawing packages comply with government standards, military specifications, Navy technical documentation standards, and DoD requirements.
  • Maintain drawing file management, version control, and digital asset tracking in project management repositories.
  • Produce technical diagrams, graphics, and schematics for proposal development, RFP responses, and site surveys.
  • Help assemble project closeout documentation, technical data packages, and final as-built packages.
