Junior Counselor -- YMCA Camp Cosby
About The Position
The Junior Counselor is a summer position at YMCA Camp Cosby in Alpine, Alabama. In accordance with YMCA Christian principles, the role assists with caring for campers and supporting their safety, well-being, happiness, growth, and development. The Junior Counselor lives in a cabin with campers and assists with cabin activities under the leadership of the Senior Counselor. The role also facilitates at least two activity areas for campers and participates in daily activities and evening programs. The position is intended for someone who demonstrates enthusiasm for serving others, teamwork, Christian character, and a commitment to the YMCA mission. The Junior Counselor must be at least 17 years old, have prior experience working with children in camping or related youth work, be physically able to cover the camp grounds and participate in camp activities, and be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Requirements

- Prior experience with children in camping or related youth work.
- Physical ability to cover the entire camp grounds and participate in all camp activities.
- Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
Responsibilities
- Live with campers and assist with their safety, health, welfare, and happiness in the cabin.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Assist campers with designing their daily schedules during activity sign-up.
- Assist campers with writing home.
- Work five daily activities in addition to cabin activities and evening programs.
- Assist the Senior Counselor in leading three camp-wide morning watches, including a song, devotion, and pledge of allegiance.
- Assist with traffic and luggage during camper check-in and check-out.
- Help campers pack up and ensure belongings are claimed by their owners to minimize lost and found.
- Ensure a staff member who is 19 or older is always within earshot or eyesight.
- Facilitate a minimum of two activity areas for campers.
