About The Position

The Jr. Cost Analyst supports the Finance and Accounting team by analyzing actual costs against standard costs, identifying variances, and preparing timely cost and inventory-related reporting. The role assists with cost audits, cost data validation, month-end accounting entries, and routine financial reporting that supports business decision-making. This position is well suited for an early-career accounting professional who is highly accurate, comfortable working with data, and interested in building cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment. This role reports to the Plant Controller and is based in Concord, Vaughan. It is 100% based in office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent related experience.
  • 0–2 years of accounting, finance, costing experience is preferred; entry-level candidates with strong Excel and accounting fundamentals will be considered.
  • Intermediate MS Excel skill is mandatory, including the ability to work with formulas, lookups, pivot tables, filtering/sorting, and large data sets.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when compiling, validating, and reporting financial information.
  • Ability to organize work, meet recurring reporting deadlines, and follow defined procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with all levels of management and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • CPA in progress.
  • QAD ERP exposure is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze standard costs versus actual costs to identify variances and support corrective action where required.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze cost reports, costing audits, and profitability-related data by product and/or customer.
  • Compile data and prepare statistical, financial, inventory, and ad-hoc reports for management review.
  • Support month-end close activities, including the preparation and posting of assigned month-end entries.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reporting such as weekly inventory reports and other operational finance reports as required.
  • Assist with year-end tasks, including intercompany reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Participate in annual physical inventory counts and support inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Review unusual cost records and verify that cost data is allocated accurately and consistently.
  • Follow established processes, procedures, and workflows in alignment with corporate guidelines and internal/external requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance, Accounting, Operations, and Business Line managers to obtain, validate, and explain cost-related information.
