About The Position

Wilson and Company is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector for their Phoenix, AZ office. This role involves the inspection of specific operations on various construction job sites, including transportation, water/wastewater treatment facilities, and infrastructure projects. The inspector will be responsible for observing and documenting daily progress, computing and tracking materials and quantities, performing material sampling and testing, and maintaining accurate records of project progress and general oversight. The position requires reading and interpreting plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents, as well as recognizing and reporting deviations from these documents. Responsibilities also include conducting/overseeing laboratory and field testing of materials like soils, aggregates, and asphalt, and maintaining clear written and oral communication with project stakeholders. The role involves attending and conducting meetings related to project insights, progress updates, and other project-specific discussions. Competent math skills are necessary for measuring distances and accurately documenting completed work.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel and stay out of town a week at a time as required providing on-site observation, inspection, and testing.
  • Knowledge of typical construction practices, ADOT specifications and ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
  • Ability to work independently and incorporate efficient time management practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally and coordinate with all the project stakeholders.
  • Disciplined individual who maintains accurate, timely and descriptive records of daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
  • Experience working with DOTs and thoroughly understand their requirements and expectations for projects.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect various construction projects from beginning to completion.
  • Thoroughly document daily progress.
  • Compute and track materials and quantities.
  • Perform material sampling and testing.
  • Maintain timely, accurate records of project progress and general oversight.
  • Read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Recognize and report any deviations from the contract documents.
  • Conduct/Oversee laboratory and field testing and reports on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials.
  • Maintain clear and effective written and oral communication and answer inquiries as required.
  • Attend and conduct meetings to gain insight of the project prior to construction, progress updates and other project related meetings.
  • Measure and scale distances along with competent math skills to provide accurate documentation of work completed.
