About The Position

Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) is seeking a full-time, permanent Junior Building Operator to join their Facilities and Operations team. This role supports the operation and maintenance of the school's building systems to ensure a safe, welcoming, comfortable, accessible, and clean environment for students, employees, and guests. Requirements

  • Technical knowledge and skills in the operation and maintenance of: HVAC, Building Automation, Fire and Life Safety, Water Treatment, Sanitary and Storm Sewer and Mechanical and Electrical systems.
  • 2 years’ experience in a professional environment.
  • Understanding of current energy management strategies.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Purchasing skills and the ability to effectively manage projects related to the department.
  • Knowledge and ability to safely operate power tools; physically capable of lifting and/or moving heavy objects.
  • Ability to work in varied environments and the flexibility to deal with changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; ability to deal diplomatically with colleagues, staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and support preventative maintenance programs in collaboration with the Director, Facilities and Operations and the Senior Building Operator, including reviewing manufacturer guidelines, analyzing maintenance reports, ensuring compliance with operational standards, and coordinating contractor scheduling.
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance of building systems such as HVAC, building automation, fire and life safety, water treatment, and sanitary and storm sewer systems.
  • Perform scheduled back-up generator tests, following instructions and schedules, and maintaining records of results.
  • Assist in ensuring all systems are operated and maintained in compliance with all codes, regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Assist and liaise with mechanical, control, and water treatment contract technicians by providing necessary information.
  • Maintain all mechanical rooms in a clean and tidy condition following good housekeeping practices.
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required to achieve the objectives of the Facilities and Operations department.
  • All other duties as assigned.
