About The Position

This role supports the Project Counsel for the State Route 400 Express Lanes Project in Atlanta, Georgia, a significant P3 project involving design, build, finance, operation, maintenance, and tolling. The Junior Attorney will manage legal efforts, provide advice on transactional, procurement, and claims matters, and focus on drafting and negotiating construction agreements and managing claims, requiring an understanding of complex risk transfer structures in design/build projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate required.
  • 0 - 2 years of law firm or in-house experience.
  • Admitted to the Bar (license to practice law) required, preferably in Georgia.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Team player with strong communication skills, reporting skills, analytical skills, negotiating skills and organizational capabilities.
  • Familiarity with contract documents and contract law.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction, contracts and negotiation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Gain a deep understanding of key project contracts (prime contracts, major subcontracts, and purchase orders), including notice procedures, deadlines, contractual risk allocation, invoicing and payment provisions, contractual remedies, preconditions to relief, and dispute resolution sequences.
  • Assist in reviewing subcontracts, identifying the impact of proposed changes, and discerning issues and appropriate solutions to benefit the Project while managing risk.
  • Assist in drafting project correspondence to the owner, key subcontractors, and critical third parties, gathering necessary technical or commercial data, and seeking approval from Project Counsel.
  • Support Project Counsel and the project management team in raising awareness among key personnel to ensure timely identification and communication of issues requiring contractual response.
  • Maintain good practices regarding internal communications (memos, emails) and ensure adherence to these practices.
  • Assist in the identification and preparation of claims in close coordination with the project management team.
  • Manage disputes and claims.
  • Support Project Counsel in addressing insurance claims and coverage issues related to the Project as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing solicitations (RFQs, RFPs) for vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, etc.).
  • Review and provide written analysis and legal opinions on contract adjustments, ensuring specifications comply with agreements.
  • Provide open and transparent communication and functional reporting to Project Counsel, demonstrating willingness to take direction.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
