County of Shasta•Redding, CA

About The Position

The Shasta County Department of Public Works is hiring for an engineering position in its professional engineering series. Depending on the level, the employee works under supervision, general supervision, or direction to perform professional field and office engineering work related to the design and construction of roads, bridges, drainage, and other public works facilities; review land-use maps and plans; and perform related work. The role may include serving as a resident engineer on construction projects, reviewing plans and maps, and placing conditions on land-use activities. The Junior Engineer is the entry-level class. The employee learns and develops engineering skills while taking on progressively more responsible assignments. The Assistant Engineer is the first working level and handles projects using relatively standardized methods; registration is not required. The Associate Engineer is the second working level, requires professional registration, and is assigned the most difficult engineering projects. The Public Works Department manages county facilities and infrastructure, including roads, bridges, airports, buildings, parks, fleet, landfill and solid-waste functions, water and sewer districts, and flood-plain administration. The current vacancy is in the Shasta County Department of Public Works. The position requires a valid California driver’s license. The oral examination is tentatively scheduled for November 2026, and responses to supplemental questions are required with the application.
