About The Position

We are SLR International, a 1,000+ North American team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Junior Air Quality Engineer or Scientist to join our expanding Air Quality Permitting and Compliance Team in Anchorage, Alaska. Preference will be given to candidates who reside in or are willing to relocate to Anchorage. This full-time position offers a dynamic range of responsibilities, requiring adaptability and a broad skill set. It presents an exciting opportunity to contribute technical expertise to complex air quality permitting projects across industries such as oil & gas, mining, chemical, energy, and other industrial sectors—both within Alaska and our North American region. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or closely related scientific field
  • Previous experience in the areas of air quality permitting and compliance consulting is a plus
  • Zero to 2 years of experience solving environmental problems, calculating air quality emissions, and interpreting permits or environmental regulations
  • Technical writing skills, and experience writing comprehensive technical reports
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite software and PDF software.
  • Ability to visit industrial and manufacturing facilities
  • Attention to detail, including excellent proofreading and writing skills
  • Logical and methodical problem solving
  • Effective time management of multiple project tasks
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of budgets and deadlines
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn
  • Proactive in seeking work tasks
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently complete tasks in support of air quality-related compliance reporting, permitting, stakeholder communication, and field data collection
  • Interact with project team members to steward compliance reports and permit applications and through the review process to delivery.
  • Understand and utilize compliance tracking and reporting software tools
  • Provide technical understanding related to projects (e.g., regulatory requirements, compliance obligations).
  • Assist clients with compliance programs.
  • Proactively work with SLR project managers to maintain a sustainable workload.
  • Short-duration travel to visit project locations and attend meetings.
  • With appropriate experience, a successful candidate will be considered for work as a representative of SLR, temporarily working in client office.
