Judicial Court Commissioner Annual Salary $99,091.20 - $148,636.80 Closing Date: June 03, 2026, or upon receipt of the first 50 application submissions.

Requirements

  • Wisconsin Resident
  • Law Degree
  • Member of the State of Wisconsin Bar Association and in good standings.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in criminal law or civil law.
  • Skilled in analyzing and appraising facts, evidence and applying legal principles with the capacity to provide reliable and sound legal counsel.
  • The ability to work effectively and harmoniously with judges, court administrators, staff members, attorneys, litigants, and the general public.
  • Qualified candidates authorized to work in the United States.
  • Appointee must establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.

Nice To Haves

  • The Judicial Court Commissioners cover all of the courts except family court and probate court (Family and Probate courts have their own commissioners and they do not cover criminal, small claims, juvenile or traffic court).

Responsibilities

  • Preside over Criminal, Juvenile Delinquency and Chips cases.
  • Handle the daily docket of cases each day.
  • Handle the initial appearances and preliminary hearings in criminal cases.
  • Preside over all small claims cases, traffic cases and CHIPS cases.
  • Hear criminal, civil and juvenile cases on a daily basis and make judicial determinations which can end in resolving many cases (small claims, traffic, juvenile/CHIPS).
  • Preside over the beginning of criminal cases and make bail determinations, probable cause determinations, and preside over preliminary hearings.
