Requirements
- Wisconsin Resident
- Law Degree from an accredited ABA Law School
- Member of the State of Wisconsin Bar Association and in good standings.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in criminal law or civil law.
- Candidate must be skilled in analyzing and appraising facts, evidence and applying legal principles with the capacity to provide sound legal decisions.
- The ability to work effectively and harmoniously with judges, court administrators, staff members, attorneys, litigants, and the general public.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Appointee must establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.
Nice To Haves
- The Judicial Court Commissioners cover all of the courts except family court and probate court.
Responsibilities
- Preside over Criminal, Civil, Traffic, Juvenile Delinquency and Chips cases.
- Handle the docket of cases each day.
- Hear criminal, civil and juvenile cases on a daily bases and make judicial determinations.
- Preside over the initial hearings in criminal cases, make bail determinations, probable cause determinations, and preside over preliminary hearings.
