About The Position

This is a limited duration Judicial Clerk position, typically a one-to-two-year term but could be extended. The Oregon Judicial Department (OJD) serves the public, and the people we serve may be facing challenging life circumstances, high levels of stress, or confusion about their next steps. The work you will do in this role affects members of our community who come to the court to have their cases resolved. We need people who want to impact their communities, value OJD’s efforts to remove barriers to access justice services, and welcome interacting with the public. Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a Juris Doctor degree program at an accredited law school OR be in possession of a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Exemplary writing, analysis, and research on legal matters, questions, facts, etc.
  • Skill in reporting on a variety of legal topics and considerations.
  • Skill managing time and remaining organized despite changing workloads.
  • Experience exercising a high level of ethical standards and acting with discretion.
  • Experience and skill in working with underrepresented populations.
  • Must complete a cover letter that demonstrates how you meet the Minimum Qualifications, Special Qualifications, and Requested Skills and Attributes.
  • Must complete a completed work history, either by completing the Job History (internal candidate) or Work Experience (external candidate) portion of your Workday profile OR by attaching an updated resume.

Responsibilities

  • Process and ensure accuracy of documents or records (both hard copy and electronic documents).
  • Provide support in the courtroom during criminal, civil, or family law matters.
  • Process court documents in accordance with legal requirements and court procedure.
  • Maintain the judge’s library.
  • Determine, if necessary, next steps on certain case types.
  • Manage juries.
  • Serve as liaison between jurors, court and counsel for exhibits, forms, instructions, and questions.
  • Assist litigants and attorneys in using the court system and inform them of court procedures, the status of cases, and the court calendar.
  • Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.
