About The Position

The Denver County Court is seeking a Judicial Associate I to support its Probation Team. The mission of Denver County Court is to administer justice fairly, efficiently, and effectively, provide excellent customer service, and foster a positive environment where employees enjoy their work. The Probation Division supervises approximately 2,500 cases assigned to 39 Probation Officers and handles misdemeanor and city ordinance violations cases. The division includes specialized units such as the DUI/DWAI Unit, DV/FV/Special Crimes Unit, Sobriety Court, Sex Offender Management Unit, Recovery Treatment Court, and Mental Health Unit.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of experience must have been in court, law enforcement or legal setting.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to navigate a fast-paced environment with a positive solution driven disposition and ability to rely/work with other.
  • Exceptional organizational skills but also flexible and able to pivot and change course rapidly.
  • Creative problem solver with impressive interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy and a high regard for people who are often in difficult circumstances.
  • Experience with customer de-escalation and conflict management.
  • Experience with electronic filing systems/databases.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet the business needs of the department and the court.
  • Possess the ability to perform as an integral part of a team.
  • Ability to understand the importance of processes and rules.
  • Exhibits adaptability and resilience in adjusting priorities and navigating unforeseen challenges as they arise.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent service to all customers and clients of the probation department and Denver County Court.
  • Perform court specific, technical clerical office support work processing all incoming adult and juvenile probationers.
  • Conduct criminal history searches utilizing several criminal justice databases.
  • Prepare and submit legal documents such as Pre-Sentence Investigation (PSIs) reports and motions to the court.
  • Interpret and explain regulations, policies, standards, and/or procedures to internal/external customers based on extensive knowledge of a specialized area within a defined scope.
  • Approve and reject case information and determine appropriate actions within a defined scope.
  • Review and evaluate forms, applications, computations, documents, and/or other information to determine accuracy, completeness, acceptability, or compliance based on extensive knowledge of court policy, procedures, and legal practices.
  • Assist in the processing of clients including phone calls, data entry into databases, report processing, intake paperwork and photos, filing motions and court documents, and supporting the overall life cycle on a case.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records and act as liaison between clients, court personnel and probation officers.
  • Work in a high-volume office requiring the ability to perform daily duties timely to meet the business needs of the department and the court.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Represent the department and the court in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Serve as a go-to for questions, schedule, train, and mentor judicial assistant team members.
  • Provide administrative support to other department specialists.
  • Problem solve difficult circumstances as they arise and notify leadership of complex issues to seek solutions and streamline processes.
  • Perform Quality Assurance checks on work product as assigned.
  • Engage in specialized projects as assigned.
  • Work in conjunction with direct supervisor to ensure collaboration amongst team members and promote efficiency in business operations.
