About The Position

The United States District Court is seeking a Judicial Assistant/Paralegal to provide executive-level administrative support and legal duties to Senior United States District Judge, the Honorable Roslyn O. Silver. The incumbent will assist the Judge in the daily activities of the office, performing administrative management, secretarial, legal, and related paralegal duties. This position also assists in the day-to-day conduct of court business and interacts with lawyers and the public on behalf of the judge. The role requires a pleasant and positive attitude, excellent organization skills, refined customer service skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with other chambers staff to effectively assist the judge.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of general experience.
  • Three years of specialized experience.
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing grammatically correct and professional quality English.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with the public.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook email/calendaring.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Proficiency in Excel spreadsheet management.
  • Proficiency in Adobe.
  • General experience: progressively responsible general clerical or secretarial experience.
  • Specialized experience: progressively responsible secretarial experience that involved responsibility as a principal office assistant to a supervisor who was dealing with law-related matters.

Nice To Haves

  • A four-year college degree.
  • A paralegal certificate from an accredited paralegal program.
  • Significant legal secretarial, paralegal, and/or court clerk experience in the criminal or civil legal field, including electronic court filing.
  • A juris doctor (JD) from a law school of recognized standing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive level administrative support and legal duties to Senior United States District Judge.
  • Assist the Judge in the daily activities of the office.
  • Perform administrative management, secretarial, legal, and related paralegal duties as assigned by the Judge.
  • Assist in the day-to-day conduct of court business.
  • Deal with lawyers and members of the public on behalf of the judge.
  • Work cooperatively with other members of the chambers staff.
