About The Position

This position is for the Army JROTC Instructor position at Lincoln High School. The role involves planning, organizing, and providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The instructor will support the School/Building, School Board, District, and State curriculum, policies, and initiatives for student achievement. Any interested candidates must first have an approved application on file with Headquarters Army JROTC and be required to obtain a CTE/Vocational JROTC Instructor certificate through the OSPI Certification office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  • Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.
  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments.
  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
  • Skill in obtaining, clarifying and exchanging information.
  • Skill in critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Skill in attention to detail.
  • Skill in classroom management.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, and strategizes a program of study based on student learning needs, meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to engage students and provide opportunities for participation.
  • Assesses student growth regularly and provides progress reports; assigns grades reflecting student achievement.
  • Refers students for evaluation by District Specialists as needed.
  • Provides guidance to promote students' welfare, educational development, and citizenship.
  • Strives to implement the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assists administration in implementing District policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops and manages reasonable rules of classroom behavior, encouraging students to maintain standards.
  • Manages student behavior and maintains order fairly and justly.
  • Participates in the planning and evaluation of school programs and District curriculum development.
  • Develops norms for learning reflecting teacher knowledge of content.
  • Prepares lesson plans for assigned classes and provides evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Provides differentiated instruction and scaffolding of tasks.
  • Effectively utilizes learning time and guides the learning process toward curriculum goals.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, aligning instructional materials and tasks.
  • Communicates objectives and learning targets to students.
  • Establishes and maintains open communication with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes when required.
  • Conducts parent/guardian conferences and meetings with District staff, parents, and students to communicate progress and interpret program rationale and student development.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Utilizes multiple data elements (formative and summative assessment) to plan and inform instruction.
  • Evaluates student learning and success criteria to modify and improve program effectiveness.
  • Uses Washington State approved student growth rubrics for tracking student growth data.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provides for and promotes the care and protection of students and school property.
  • Supervises students in lunchroom, hallways, school grounds, and sanctioned programs.
  • Utilizes and provides access to community and District resources to enhance student learning and teacher effectiveness.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge and skills through professional development activities and training.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
  • Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance as required.
  • Provides guidance and works with staff members.
  • Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
  • Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
  • Supports appropriate conduct and performance of job duties.
  • Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
  • Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers per District guidelines.
  • Maintains files on latest curriculum guides.
  • Keeps updated on resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence.
