About The Position

Aviva Canada has an exciting opportunity within our Commercial Insurance business unit. We are seeking a Junior Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our Ontario Commercial Lines team. In this role, you will support the profitable growth of our Commercial Property & Casualty portfolio by underwriting and servicing small to moderately complex risks. Working closely with Intermediate and Senior Underwriters, you will develop your technical underwriting expertise while delivering exceptional service to brokers and customers. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career insurance professional looking to build a long-term career in commercial underwriting.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in the insurance industry, preferably in commercial insurance, underwriting support, broker operations, or customer service.
  • Exposure to Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CIP designation completed or in progress is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and insurance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate risk for new business, renewals, and mid-term policy changes within assigned authority.
  • Underwrite and service small commercial Property & Casualty accounts in accordance with corporate underwriting guidelines.
  • Review submissions, loss history, risk characteristics, and exposure information to determine acceptability and pricing.
  • Analyze underwriting information to support profitable business decisions.
  • Respond to broker inquiries and policy servicing requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Build and maintain strong broker and internal stakeholder relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with Intermediate and Senior Underwriters on more complex risks.
  • Escalate risks that exceed established underwriting authority guidelines.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, underwriting practices, policy forms, and regulatory changes.
  • Utilize underwriting systems, tools, and resources effectively to support decision-making.
  • Contribute to portfolio growth and retention objectives through responsive customer service and broker engagement.
  • Participate in training, development programs, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Support underwriting projects, audits, and process improvement initiatives as required.
