About The Position

Aviva Canada Inc. has an excellent opportunity in our Medium Enterprise commercial insurance business unit. Our Ontario Mid-Market branch is seeking a Commercial Lines Fleet Auto Underwriters in Junior and Intermediate roles. In this position, you will service a substantial portfolio of commercial auto business requiring a demonstrated underwriting ability and a commitment to customer service excellence. You will be involved in the underwriting of Fleet accounts. We welcome applicants with anywhere from 1 to 5 years of insurance and/or underwriting experience. We will determine level based on experience.

Requirements

  • For Junior Candidates: 1–3 years of experience in the insurance industry; exposure to commercial auto underwriting is an asset.
  • Foundational underwriting skills and a strong appetite for learning and growth.
  • For Intermediate Candidates: 3–5 years of commercial auto underwriting, fleet experience.
  • Demonstrated technical capability to independently manage a portfolio.
  • Ability to provide guidance to junior underwriters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • CIP designation in progress or completed (preferred).
  • Knowledge of RTM is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate risk for new and existing fleet business
  • Assist more junior underwriters with applying corporate underwriting standards and share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Intermediate); share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Junior)
  • Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing levels and policy form amendments
  • Negotiate renewal terms for the retention of business
  • Utilize loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process.
  • Respond to inquiries from brokers regarding modification to policy files in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Work with brokers to develop new business.
  • Develop and maintain excellent broker relationships and management of assigned broker portfolio
  • Provide above average customer service
