About The Position

The Junior Systems Administrator supports the installation, configuration, security, and day‑to‑day operation of IT systems used in a federal defense manufacturing environment, including production and office systems that support the design and manufacture of body armor products. Under the guidance of senior administrators, this position helps maintain servers, workstations, networks, and user accounts in compliance with federal cybersecurity and quality requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field; or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a systems or network support role (internships, co‑ops, or military experience acceptable).
  • Working knowledge of Windows desktop and server environments.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls).
  • Experience troubleshooting common hardware and software issues on PCs, laptops, and peripherals.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and ability to follow established procedures in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required federal background checks or clearances (if applicable to the contract).

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or entry‑level Microsoft/other admin certifications.
  • Exposure to virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V).
  • Experience in a manufacturing, defense, or other regulated industry (ITAR/DoD/federal‑contractor environment).
  • Familiarity with NIST/CMMC, STIG‑like hardening, or similar cybersecurity frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, virtual machines, and end‑user workstations across office and manufacturing environments.
  • Perform routine system updates, patches, and upgrades in accordance with change‑control procedures and applicable DoD/federal security requirements.
  • Monitor system and network performance, review logs, and escalate issues to senior IT staff to maintain uptime for production and engineering systems.
  • Support administration of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file/print services, and Group Policy (account creation, permission assignments, account deactivation, etc.).
  • Provide Tier 1–2 technical support for hardware, software, connectivity, and access issues; coordinate with the help desk as needed.
  • Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of network devices—including switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls—under supervision.
  • Support backup and disaster‑recovery processes, including running scheduled backup jobs, performing restoration tests, and maintaining documentation.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining cybersecurity controls (patch management, antivirus/EDR, secure configurations, access policies) aligned with federal or DoD requirements (e.g., STIG‑like baselines).
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, SOPs, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Follow facility, safety, and information‑security protocols for controlled/unclassified environments within a federal‑contractor manufacturing setting.
  • Provide support for shop‑floor and OT/industrial systems (e.g., CNC‑connected workstations, QA systems, ballistic test equipment) under guidance from senior staff.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation or shift work to support 24/7 operations when required by production schedules or contract obligations
