About The Position

The Junior Research Financial Data Analyst will support the Research Department's financial operations, project budgeting, and reporting functions. This internship offers hands-on experience in research administration, financial data analytics, project tracking, business intelligence reporting, dashboard development, and financial monitoring for federally funded, foundation-funded, and community-based research initiatives. Working closely with research leadership and project managers, the intern will assist with maintaining project financial records, updating and monitoring research budgets, developing data visualization tools and dashboards, and conducting analyses to support operational and financial decision-making. This opportunity is ideal for an undergraduate student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Data Analytics, Health Administration, Public Health, Economics, Accounting, or a related field who is interested in healthcare operations, research administration, and data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree in: Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, Economics, Health Administration, Public Health, Or a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining and updating project budgets using standardized organizational templates.
  • Enter, monitor, and reconcile financial information for active, proposed, and completed research projects.
  • Review budget records for completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Support tracking of project expenditures, funding allocations, and budget modifications.
  • Assist in preparing budget monitoring reports, financial summaries, and forecasting analyses.
  • Develop and maintain financial and operational dashboards using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SQL, SharePoint, and other approved platforms.
  • Create visual reports and performance metrics tracking: Budget utilization and forecasting, Funding pipeline activities, Project performance indicators, Financial and operational trends.
  • Support dashboard automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct descriptive and trend analyses of project financial and operational data.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and data summaries for research leadership.
  • Monitor and track key research finance metrics, including: Budget performance, Funding activity, Income and cost analysis, Project spending trends.
  • Develop charts, tables, and visualizations to support executive reporting and decision-making.
  • Assist with the implementation of department-wide project management processes and reporting tools.
  • Support special projects related to research operations, grants management, financial tracking, and organizational process improvement.
  • Participate in research department meetings and planning activities as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
